Pilgrimage
These designs honor the thousands of believers who make the pilgrimage each year to the Santuario de Chimayó, a beloved local church built in about 1814. The Good Friday pilgrimage draws thousands of walkers of many faiths from all parts of New Mexico and points beyond. Many come for the healing dirt found in El Posito, the small well off to one side of the main altar. Some carry heavy crosses, photos, and other items in a prayerful walk asking for miracles for loved ones or themselves. Others walk in gratitude for blessings received. We hope our designs convey our profound love and reverence for all who walk in pilgrimage to El Santuario de Chimayó.
