This striking heart pendant features two stones that are becoming highly popular in Southwestern silver jewelry: rosarita and Sierra Bella turquoise.
Sierra Bella Turquoise comes from the Campitos Mountains just south of the border in Sonora, Mexico. This Sierra Bella specimen is a bright blue turquoise shade with a sparkling copper matrix.
Rosarita is a by-product of gold smelting. When heated to high temperatures, the gold from the ore sinks to the bottom while the rest of the ore solidifies into a red rock. Rosarita was once discarded, but jewelers have discovered it as an eco-friendly alternative to red coral, which (sadly) is increasingly rare.
Rosarita has a lovely high gloss, and this stone has beautifully contoured striping. It is complemented by sterling silver flowers and decorative raindrops around the outside of the stone. It comes with a sterling silver chain.
Length 3-1/4″ including handmade bail (2-3/4″ without bail), width 1-1/2″, 1.0 oz.
NOTE: Shades of rosarita and turquoise may appear different in different lighting/backgrounds and on various monitors/devices. (Please also note that the large copper area in the upper left on the turquoise is just a difference in coloration; there is no indentation in the stone, as it might appear in photos.)
